On December 12, 2024, local time, in Havana, Cuba, Nguyen Van Tuan, the General Director of GELEX Group, held a meeting with His Excellency Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the First Secretary of the Communist Party and President of Cuba.
In reporting to President Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, the General Director of GELEX Group and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Viglacera Corporation, affirmed that after six years of operation, the ViMariel Industrial Park, invested in by Viglacera (a member company of GELEX Group) in the Mariel Special Economic Zone, has contributed to boosting business activities, meeting the demand for goods in the Cuban market, and creating more jobs for Cuban workers.
In addition to the ViMariel Industrial Park, Viglacera established the Sanvig joint venture in November 2019, operating in the field of building materials. The Sanvig joint venture not only supplies goods to the domestic market, contributing to the development of the construction market in Cuba, but also exports products, bringing about foreign currencies for Cuba.
During the meeting, His Excellency Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed excitement and welcomed GELEX, Viglacera, and Vietnamese enterprises to invest and cooperate in business in Cuba. The President of Cuba reiterated the friendly and genuine relationship between Vietnam and Cuba and affirmed that both governments are strongly supportive of investment and business cooperation between enterprises from both countries.
Since the visit and working trip to Cuba in October 2024 by To Lam, General Secretary of Vietnam Communist Party, GELEX Group and Viglacera Corporation have actively promoted investment and cooperation activities with Cuba. In addition to the Industrial Park and building materials, cooperation in pharmaceuticals, especially biotechnology products, is a new direction. At the same time, GELEX along with Viglacera is also supporting Cuba in the fields of agriculture, energy, and technology.
The General Director of GELEX Group expressed deep gratitude to His Excellency Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez for the support of the Cuban government for the activities of GELEX and Viglacera in Cuba over the past period, expressing confidence in the investment and business prospects in Cuba and cooperation with Cuban enterprises, while also presenting several proposals to help promote cooperation between businesses from both countries.
Currently, Vietnam is Cuba’s second-largest Asian trade partner and the largest foreign investor from the Asian region in Cuba, with six implemented projects.
Cuba is committed to always welcoming and accompanying Vietnamese investors. The Cuban government will seek mechanisms and solutions to facilitate the activities of Vietnamese enterprises investing in Cuba.
